I just want to add a plug for Tim. I purchased one of his follow focus systems a few months ago, and I was especially impressed with his customer service. As a relative newcomer to online purchases, Tim was able to assuage my concerns by taking the time, through several phone calls, to assure me that he would stand by his product. His product has worked great for my DVX system, and I would gladly do business with him again.

So have you found that the device is free of slippage?

Any and all details would be appreciated. There must be SOME drawbacks to this cheaper follow focus, and I'd love to hear them so I can either not get it, or get it knowing what I'm buying :)

Thanks!
M.

It takes a bit longer to set up the proper resistance using the resistance compared to a geared system. I found that setting and locking the proper height first, then sliding the riser bracket against the lens was the best way to achieve slip-free focusing.

Tim is constantly improving the system - I know he recently invested in new gearboxes to reduce backlash by a degree or so. That goes a long way toward improving accuracy.

Tim's a great guy and he'll stand behind his products.
I haven't had a need for a follow focus yet otherwise, I'd be using his sytem.

Thanks for the endorsements!

Malcolm, if you're using a 35mm DOF adaptor, the indiFOCSUgearis what you'll want. Not only does it come with three lens gears and the gear module to drive them, it also includes the friction wheel...best thing for using on the stock lens of your camera as no modifications are needed. With the gears on your 35mm lenses, there is no slippage.

Happy Holidays to everyone!

Here are a couple pictures of my setup. I love it.

WARNING: This setup will instantly make you look professional. Which will make it a tad bit harder for guerilla-style shoots because you will get stares from people. I have been out shooting random stuff doing Letus tests and I have been asked three times if I was with the news. You go from being some invisible guy with a small video camera to "Look, honey. They're shooting a movie."

If you consider that a downside then that's the only one you'll have because Tim makes great products and with the Letus combo it's amazing.

Yeah, I think I need to get that. Glad to learn that the geared one is better for 35mm adapters. I thought it would be a pain to keep putting rings on the lenses, but it comes with 3! I'm sold.
