Indifocus Lens Gear

I'm wondering if indifocus' follow focus lens gear will fit all standard follow focus out there? (i.e. 0.8 pitch) Right now I don't have the budget yet to own a follow focus but I'll be using nikon lenses with LetusEX. I'll probably rent one from a local store (which is very cheap for one day, probably Arri) and buy just the lens gear.

I'm planning to buy the rail system from Cinevate and considering the lens gear too (so save the shipping). But I don't get the idea why they are selling one piece of lens gear for $120 while indifocus sells it for $22. What makes the big difference?

indi is plastic and

Cinevate is aluminium, and is standard 0.8 pitch.

the indi gears will only fit the indi follow focus gear (It is not the standard 0.8) so it won't work with the follow focus on the market. ( that is the old model that I know) I'm not sure if they upgraded the ring too? But it doesn'y seem like it, because they are still selling the Cine gear (0.8) as a extra piece.

Redrock also sells good gear rings for $60 apiece, and they are standard 0.8 , alot of people will say that it doesn't turn 360* , but how many 35mm lenses out there turns 360*

David you are right - 35mm still lenses never turn 360 - the only exception is some macro lenses and even then I have never heard of a practical shooting situation in which someone pulled focus the entire 360 (from infinity to 1:1 - wow! :) )

In addition the microLensGears are standard film pitch and are optimizeed for still lenses, so they are a little wider and a little larger in diameter to improve accuracy in focusing using still lenses

Hope that helps

My understanding of the indifocus gears is that they are 1.0 opposed to the cine standard 0.8. Although the new geared indifocuspro comes with its own gear and gearing for 1.0, it also has the 0.8 gearwheel bundled with it free for those who have cinelenses or cine lens gears already.

Eventually all of my lenses will have either built in 0.8 cinegears or I will buy 0.8 gearings for my lenses. For now my budget has to go into as much on screen as possible so any money saved on gearing goes into new lenses, more P2 cards and monitoring.

For those who don't want the indiFOCUSpro gears [1.0], then all you need to do is buy the base unit $299 US and just pay for the cinegear option at $22 US. That then means you have a 0.8 geared option and can buy 0.8 lens gears from someone else if you want or to use your pro lenses with cinegearing on them already.

Thanks, Richard
