Independent Production Deal $$$

Hi Everyone,

First of all, I just want to say thank you to whoever's reading this, and a special thank you to all you knowledgeable people who are able to help me out with this information.

My question is this:
I will have the position of coming up with the idea for a production for a decently well-known cable channel. I'm based overseas, so I'm trying to partner with a production company here to help me produce the short documentary video (like TLC, history, discovery channel type of program) if the idea gets accepted.
If it does get accepted, could anyone please tell me how a deal usually works in such a situation?

I have a fairly good relationship with this production company ( a friend of a friend kind of thing), but have never worked professionally with them.

What would be an average percentage that they, the technical production side of the project, would get, and I, the creative side of production, would get?

Also, has anyone been in a similar situation before? I'd be interested to hear how it goes.

Thanks a lot,
david

They would do the work for hire that way you own all rights. If you cannot afford the production and they want their part to be part of the equity then you need to budget everything out and see what percentage their work is of the overall production. For example Post production is typically 20% of budget.
