Incredible Premiere CS5 mystery.

This is mind boggling:

I have Premiere CS5. When I open a project created with Premiere CS3 (Lets call the project "Gogo.prproj") CS5 simply asks me to rename the project with a name such as "Gogo_1.prproj". I edit the project without problem. Everything seems compatible. Then I save the project under "Gogo_1.prproj" with CS5. I now have a CS3 project called "Gogo.prproj" and a CS5 project called "Gogo_1.prproj". Wonderful.

Then the problems begin.

When I open "Gogo_1.prproj" (saved under Premiere CS5) all hell breaks loose. Premiere CS5 just hangs there and finally just shuts down. This means CS5 does not manage to save the project correctly. Or at least something gets lost in translation.

Many of you will think virus. So did I. That is why I reinstalled windows and premiere on a brand new drive. I tried the procedure again. Same result.

Now what is even stranger about this is that this problem will only occur with files that have imbedded sequences in them. If there are no imbedded sequences, the problem will not occur. Again, if this were a virus, the problem would occur with all files.

Finally, to top it off, this problem is new. This means I did not have that problem 2 weeks ago. The files I'm opening are the same ones which worked fine in the past and I have not touched them.

Why this problem occurs now is a total and absolute mystery.

Does anybody have any theories about this? I find this absolutely crazy.

System:

Windows 7 Professional.
Premiere CS5 5.03
I7 960 - 24 GIGA DDR3
Files are XDCAM EX

Just for the sake of it - export the project as XML and than try to import this and save it as a normal project again.

If the only way is to kill yourself, so be it then...

As already suggested, try a different way: for example, create a new project and import from the old project exported... which means, even if the only way is to kill yourself, try a different bullet each time you do the kill yo... ;-)

System: . . . Premiere CS5 5.03

Since this seems pretty clearly to be a PP bug, you might try updating to CS5.5 and try the whole process again.... you never know, it might be fixed in 5.5.

Otherwise, try to find some variation in your workflow which can avoid tripping the bug. For example if you don't have too many embedded sequences, then remove them form where they're embedded using CS3, get the projects running in CS5, and then when all is well and you can load, edit and save, re-embed them.

I will try the recommendations. However, the strange thing is that this problem is recent. I did not have the problem two weeks ago. This suggests it is not an inherent CS5 bug. So I don't see what could have changed in Windows or Premiere to cause this problem. I will try different combinations.

However, I am so intrigued by this that am offering a 50 euro reward (payable by paypal), to anybody who can comes up with the right explanation and fix for this. This is totally beyond anything I have every come across.

If the XML trick doesn´t work, my next guess (especially since you say you haven´t had that problem before) are:

1. a problem with your RAM chips
2. have you installed MacDrive? (it caused some similar problems on my workstation).

I did not install MacDrive. The only thing might be Microsoft Office Familly pack.

How do I test the memory?

Where do I go to check the presets?
