Pmd 671 needed a firmware update.

Yes, it's a bummer that you must send it back for an eprom or whatever... but you do.

Shipped back to Marantz at 5:50pm on Tuesday.

Arrives at my door at 5:00 pm Today (Thursday).

Less then 48 hour turn-around? TOTAL!?

That's a check in the plus box for Marantz... just thought I'd give a shout out.

Matt,

Just saw your post. I have a PMD670 and have been happy with it. I went back and did a search to read some of the older posts. I see at one time you were looking at the 670. Here I see you got the 671. As I said, I've had what I feel are good results but now I'm wondering if I'm really missing out...

Probably not Blaine... and one thing you better learn about me is that I have ZERO brand loyalty... If somebody comes out with an HVX beater I'll be getting that cam... so my lack of bias forces me to tell you to consider the new Tascam first if you plan to upgrade.

I love the 671, but if the HD P2 was available at the time I would have taken a hard look at it.

In all fairness maybe it's not that great? The timecode was a worthy reason to consider it then... and it still is. Being able to jam your code for an easy sync is pretty handy.

I have other ways around it... but if you get serious about upgrading you know my thoughts.

I still love Marantz and that's no disrespect to them... plus it's nice to know that if you ever get in a tight spot that Marantz will have you shooting within 2 days... but output is... and will always be... my bottom line.

Thanks. I remember the first time I used it and did the sync in FCP. Used a slate and meticulously lined everything up for the edit. A couple of months after I was through I learned about the MERGE function. IDIOT!
