Increasing the Sound beyond Vegas's 12DB

Hello
I had a Registrar who was extremely quiet, and my back up mic at the front was either in the Headphone slot, or slightly pulled out as they are right next to eachother...normally the DVX picks up the sound.
So on 12DB the highest in vegas, I can only just hear her. and I need to increase it more.

Thanks :)

Well, as a quick fix, render that boosted audio and import it again and increase it as needed. OR you can right click the audio file, go to switches, and normalize it. usually works wonders for me, however, it will only pull the volume up until the highest peak hits 0db, to counter this if you only have maybe one really loud spike, just split the peak into a seperate event and normalize both events.

Try selecting the quiet clip, then normalizing it. I forget how audio process' work in vegas, but it should have a normalizer, which will boost the volume of the clip up to a designated peak level. So you could set something like -1db, and then the loudest peak will be that level. Or you could engage the track compressor, and boost it there. Or you could make a copy of the audio track, and then both together will double the volume - or triple if you add another. If you have a "maximiser" plug-in you can boost the volume to extremes without clipping. Maybe a peak limiter?

Vegas has the BEST audio of any NLE. You definitely have the tools you need.

Agreed, you might have to split her out to a new track .. from the other voices on the timeline to work on her voice.

The if you right click on her audio track on the timeline, you can find 'normalise' listed in the menu. If you end up with to much track noise, EQ the tops off her.

I use SoundForge 9 for more involved audio, it integrates very well with Vegas. IMO SF10 is for audio only projects.
Cheers.

Thanks Knox, Chad and Raster :)
I splitted the wav's when I moved that 12DB Scale, but this Normalise looks (sounds) interesting so I'll try that, and also rendering and importing in. I couldn't believe how quiet the registrar spoke :)

Let's hope she's not drowned out by the background noise, can't bring up the voice without increasing the background noise also.

Good luck!
