Consider my mind blown by this concept, and it looks REALLY REALLY well executed.

Definitely on my watch list.

i always like cool sci-fi ideas,
but somehow it feels i'm watching the same old recipe once again:

an interesting grim future reality, underground rebels, black market rough types, the big bad company that rules it all.
oh, and let us not forget the cool beautiful girl that joins the hero...

i mean, it might be a nice action movie flick (which is fine, if that's the purpose),
but compare it to, let's say, "children of men", which builds on the same grim reality concept,
but has a more deeper and realistic plot and characters...

i have a very tough taste, so forgive me ;)

@Roei Z:

How can you compare this film to another film just by watching the trailer? Talking about negative expectations... Of course it is the same old recipe, that's what this genera is, someone has a problem and they have to fix it "In Time", no pun intended... which is exactly the same premise as Children of Men!

Its not about the recipe, its about the journey this film takes their characters through, and if that's interesting and fun that's all good. its the same thing only different (I hope).

it's just that i'm pessimistic, and you're the opposite..
i think i've developed a sense of smell for these kind of movies..
and i'm not forgiving anymore ;)
sorry, i've seen too many good looking ideas end up the same, so..
hope i'm wrong.

Cinematography by Roger Deakins, his first time using digital: Arri Alexa.
The concept looks neat too, I'll give it a chance for those reasons.

In the end all films are the same. Grim reality/future, rebels, black market, a beautiful girl joining the hero... these are all typical and at the same time very general story elements. It's like saying "oh great, another hero saves the day story."

IMO this long trailer really bodes well. Seems like not only a great concept, but a unique and fresh story, and while we didn't get a real sense of the characters, I'm a HUGE fan of Cillian Murphy and Justin Timberlake. I think they can breath life into characters fairly well. This is on my watch list.

well maybe it's a matter of taste.
i do like Cillian Murphy, but still-
i consider 'inception' to be a nice action flick.
so i really find it hard to expect this to be any better..

Gripes aside for a moment, this will be worth seeing if for no other reason than it is a new original screenplay by Andrew Niccol, who is also directing. This is the guy who gave us Gattaca, The Truman Show, and Lord of War after all.

Finally caught this.. bitterly disappointing, considering AN's involvement. The casting of Timberlake was incredibly curious, he just doesn't work as a leading action man, I struggle to see how anyone could have bought him in the role. Plot holes too riddle the narrative, while the second half of the film is disappointedly dull.. oh the decision to have the female lead running around in high heels... that was a bigger stretch of believability than the whole time concept!

Super sad.

I think the concept had a lot of good going for it. Guess that's all though.

Word of mouth killed my interest in seeing it in theaters, but Netflix!

Roger is probably the only one that shines in this. Cillian Murphy did good, but wasn't given a lot to work with beyond a good bad guy character. The movie was more fun than The Three Musketeers, but just as horribly written.

Still, the Alexa is one hell of a camera, and Deakins is one hell of a cameraman.

Saw a preview of it without sound, and it looked like a remake of Logan's Run. I guess the premise is a bit different, though.

I just got around to watching this last night on digital projection at an AMC theater. First time seeing the Alexa projected and while I though the cinematography was top notch, there was something slightly video-ish about the motion of the image that I haven't seen from the camera before. Even the trailer on apple trailers didn't exhibit the issue.

It looked almost as if the refresh rate of the projector was set too high; like it was being displayed on one of those 120Hz true-motion lcd televisions, though not as drastic. No one else I was with seemed to notice or care, but I felt like it took me out of the movie as it was a bit distracting.

Does anyone know what projectors AMC uses (Sony 4k?) and what refresh rate they might project at?

Saw it recently. I heard the ratings weren't great so I went in with lower expectations. That considering, it wasn't bad. Worth a rental at least.

I liked that Olivia Wilde was the mother. I think Timberlake was just miscast. Not that he's a bad actor, but this wasn't his character. He doesn't play compassionate too well. He should stick to rougher Alpha Dog type roles for dramas. Amanda Seyfried was great eye candy... and that's about all she was. Felt like she just went along for the ride, literally and figuratively.

It just fell apart in the second half really. It just turned into a robin hood story without very much suspense. When it got to the climax I wasn't holding onto my seat freaking out. It was more of a sigh.

Great concept, great style, cast had potential, so did the script, but it fell apart.
