In the UK, you pay more for your car insurance if you are a film maker

So today I had to switch my previous car insurer for a new one, (I used a compare website) and I put down that my occupation is a script writer and I almost got a quote that's 20% more than when I put photographer (My freelance job).

Same if you say Film director or anything to do with the Film industry.

Freaking sucks!

We do here, too.

I imagine there's a good reason for it. For instance, someone whose job it is to run black tar heroin up from Mexicali might pay more than someone who folds shirts at Walmart.

What if you say writer instead of screenwriter? It ought to be enough to say that you write; if that's to your advantage premium-wise I don't see that the specific field of writing is any of the insurer's business.

I usually describe myself as a production manager - but I suspect that this fits the category of somebody working in a factory. The entertainment industry is far, far worse - dancers, singers, musicians and actors often work late nights, in environments full of drink and drugs (!) - insurance is all about risk, so annoying as it is to us, statistically they are probably correct. Some occupations are more risky than others.

i had no idea they base their rates on your occupation. that sucks. at least now i know i should probably stop lying about my career being a professional driver/stuntman.
