in honor of Spidey...Titles that suck, but the movie doesn't

While reading the Cinderella Man thread, Spidey's posts made me think of this. What titles of movies made you avoid them initially, only to see them later and realize they were actually good films?

I'll start it off with The Shawshank Redemption. I caught it on HBO about a year after it was in theaters. What an amazing movie! I'm still hoping that Frank Darabont will make another film as good, but nothing has quite lived up to Shawshank. I still watch this again on dvd every so often, even with TNT showing it every other week.:)

I think the "The Green mile" is just as good, if not better. I love Darabont. But to answer the post. I hate the title "Donnie Darko"

The Thing, one of my favorite horror films ever by John Carpenter. I thought it was some creepy s&m porno originally then i saw it and realized what an amazing film it was.

FIght Club?
You're nuts David...I thought that was a great title.

Now, "The Hudsucker Proxy" ...THAT's a clunky title.
(but great movie!)

Agree.

"O brother, where are thou" - another title I despise. those Coen brothers are crazy!!
But "Fargo" and "Blood simple" are two fantastic titles and two of my all time favorites.

this is jeremy aka spidey yes i had to convince someone to watch fight club. they said its sounds aweful they watched and love it.

But "Fight Club," especially the way the ad campaign went, is not what the movie is about. So, thinking it was only about guys beating the crap out of each other, I passed on it until someone told me otherwise.

Fair enough... I could see that.

I felt the same way about 'The Sixth Sense'
Terrible and generic title I thought, my girlfriend at the time (my wife now) dragged me to it and I was convinced I was in for another bad wannabe horror movie.

hmmm... think about what you said.....how long has that horror movie lasted so far?.......   :undecided

That was the whole point Kimko...that I was wrong in my reaction, and my reaction was based on the title.

Bad title (in my opinion) but a damned good movie.

luis... i thought you knew me by now.. i'm sick and demented....... i wasn't talking about the movie?......................................................just joking

ZING !!!

Damn I'm slow.

Well Pearl Harbor wasn't about Pearl Harbor... It was about Japanese people ruining Ben Affleck's love affair.

Braveheart - Sounded like a Jean Claude Van Damme movie
Flight of the Phoenix - This has become a guilty pleasure for me, but the title was stupid
Death Wish - One of the great 'political societal' movies in my opinion, but sounds like a kill em all movie.
House of 10,000 Corpses - Sounds like a carnival ride with strange carnies.
Catch Me If You Can - Didn't see it in theatres because I thought it was more of a kids movie
Closer - One of my favorite movies, but the title just doesn't do it for me
Glengarry Glenn Ross - Another favorite of mine, but would be much better with a title more like what they chose for 'In the Company of Men'

ha!that's good yankee, i never saw harbor but i guess i'll go see it now. i want to see the japanese ruin his love affair, braveheart is another
