I'm doing the same thing I always do to make a quicktime file that I can use in idvd, but when I go to play the quicktime file it is dropping frames, and the dialogue is not lined up. (this is strange because the dialogue is in line in other parts) When I play it in FCP it is lined up just fine for all the footage and I'm not seeing any dropped frames.

To make my DVD I am doing a quicktime conversion, then since I shot my footage using an XH-A1 in HD I am choosing HDV1080p24, frame rate "current", data rate restrict to 6400, size compressor native 1440 x 1080 HD 16:9, preserve apect ratio is not clicked. Can anyone tell me how to fix this? or why this is happening? I have to submit my film for entry Wed.

Do you have the latest version of Quicktime? One of the recent versions had some
problems. Also, have you tried setting data rate at automatic instead of restrict to 6400,
just to see if it helps?

Another excellent possibility is to use compressor to export instead of QT. I have found the final DVD, at least with DVD studio, looks MUCH better if I export in compressor
instead of to QT.

I checked my updates and they are all current, so I don't think that can be the problem. How would I use compressor I wouldn't know where to begin?

This maybe a dumb question, but what is exactly is the function of compressor and does anybody know an easy way to use it to make a quicktime file for idvd, or possibly dvd studio pro (but I'm not sure how to use dvdstudiopro).

YOU GUYS F'ING ROCK!!!!!!! Just a heads up to any Canon A1 users in compressor you have to use the "Advanced Format Version" HDV 1080i60... I know what your thinking, "but I shot 1080p24" yes but the camera is still capturing 60 frames a second and I believe this is why in compressor you have to use this setting, but all I know is that it is FINALLY working, hope this helps!

After reading some old post I made the sequence into a regular quicktime file 1080p24 (not a conversion) and from there I opened with Quicktime and made the sequence using the H.264 option and this is working better than the option I used above with compressor there is less noise in the picture. So I have a few I'm sure simple and quick questions.

1. What is the highest quality uncompressed way to do a sequence, is making a quicktime file (not a quicktime conversion) the best uncompressed way of making your sequence into an uncompressed file? (I realize once I make a quicktime conversion it is getting compressed) I read once I have an uncompressed file that opening it with quicktime and using H.264 would allow me to make the clearest DVD possible.

2. After finishing the step above can I really expect to see a differnce between idvd and dvd studio pro? If so how much clearer will Dvd Studio Pro be?

Thanks in advance.
