In a bind...which shotgun mic is better? Rode NTG-2 or Panasonic AG-MC100?

I'm starting a production on Saturday, and I have just a bit of budget left...

I currently own the Panasonic AG-MC100...it came with my DVX...It's been dooable for the smaller productions...but the sound has been highly unimpressive at best.

I can afford a a Rode NTG-2...but I'm a complete layman when it comes to sound production...while I have no delusions of producing incredible sound, I would like the sound to be as good as it possibly can be.

My options are to stick with what i've got, or to pick up an NTG-2, or the dreaded ME66/K6 (which i'm 99% sure i will not buy, based on its awful reviews here)

I'd overextend myself a bit and get the 4073a...but the only place in Toronto that has it in stock in selling it for $972, and that seems way overpriced, considering where the canadian dollars at and the fact that its selling for around $600 in the states.

So thats the mess I'm in... Any input on this issue would be a huge help, and much appreciated. Thanks!

the rode easily beats the pan mic just make sure you get the mic as close to the source as possible (off the camera). depending on what you are using it for the oktava mk012 has a much nicer sound than the rode but you will need better suspension mount & wind protection. do a search & look at the stickies at the top of the audio section, all the information you need is there

I have the NTG-2. It's good for outdoor stuff, like sidewalk interviews and things like that.

Why not rent if the shoot is just for one day or so? Try Vistek.

Actually it starts on saturday, but the shoot (and some other shoots) will be spread out over the month.

Thanks for all the input!
