Importing with Tape Trouble

I am importing 40 minute full clips where the camera never had a pause break to make a new video as it imports. So it would be one big long 40 minute video if it imported. Thing is I tried it about 3-4 times. I have a canon hv20 and plugged it in. And set the settings and imported. After I hit the stop button when it was done it gave me an error basically saying it could not capture all the footage. I have plenty of hard drive space so no problems there. So I tried it in 10 minute intervals and it worked. But not working with one entire import.

Anyone know why it can't import the whole 40 mins at once?

I have no clue. Not very familiar with NLE. So give me a hand.

i.e What software are you using to edit, Avid, Premier, Final Cut Pro etc??

Bump. What's the next step? How do a resolve this problem? Is it my firewire cable? The one I'm using.. I've had it for about 2-3 years. Bad?
