Importing Trouble. Need Help Fast.

Any idea on why my video capture keeps stopping after about 5 minutes each time I import? It was working fine until this last project. I feel like I have looked at almost everything and read as much as I could find. I am using FCP HD and importing from a DVX100. Footage was shot in 24fps.

I am importing into a g5 dual 2.0, 3.5ram. I have tried importing into my internal and external drives, used different cameras to import...etc.

If anyone has any suggestions I would be very grateful, thank you.

It says that it dropped frames and then FCP locks up and won't shut down. That only happens sometimes, most of the time the video just freezes. I have deselected the abort if frames are dropped in the preferences.

I have used an easy set up. Is there anything I could do? I have been trouble-shooting for hours and keep trying different things. I feel like it could be something I am easily overlooking.

ALSO, after it freezes it shows that my scratch disk is completely full except for about 1.5 gigs...though I know I have much more room than that.

Ok, I have tried resetting and trashing all my settings and beginning again. It keeps happening. My video capture makes it just after five minutes of importing and then freezes and FCP locks up. Is there any other ideas on how to fix this?

Thanks!

Check first if on your Scrtach disks you have the Option "journaled" turned on if so use Disk Utility (File menu) to turn it off. Second check in your Sctach disk pref if you have a "Minimal allowable disk space" that's that high that makes FCP stopping: FCP reserve that space for Grabbing so no matter if you have 10 GB free if it's set to 5GB then after 5 GB capture it will stop. Try lowering to 500MB. Use FW400 for DVX100 and 800 for external disk, but as you have a G5 you should try using second internal SATA disk to capture instead than ext FW.

Thanks for the help, I have finally figured it out. The latest Quicktime update has caused a lot of problems with anyone running FCP 4.5. You cannot capture more than 5 minutes of footage without FCP locking up and freezing.

I cannot go back and download an earlier version of Quicktime, I will have to either clean the drive and re-install the operating system or get a newer version of FCP.

Anyone have any better ideas or possibilities? Thanks!
