Importing P2 using windows

Hi,
I am new registered user but have been a reader for sometime now. Not sure if this has been asked before but before I posted I checked and could not find.
I am importing P2 media SD from a 16gb cards. I have been consistantly encountering errors while trying to import long clips (long meaning 45 min or 4gb+), There have been times when smaller clips will not import. I was wondering is there a application I can run in order to import these files with no problem into windows? I have been able to import the same media in FCP with no problem what so ever but if i try on a pc its errors out. So i know the media or the cards are not bad.
I had read something about first transfering the media to a local drive off the cards and then importing but I tried that and same result. I hope I have provided enough info to get some help with this.
Thanks in Advance.

Vic

Do you import using P2CMS? That is a free software from Panasonic for ingesting and manipulating metadata. Be sure to copy the lastclip.txt as those are important for long clips that span over P2 cards. Also, a P2 card won't write a file that is bigger than 4gb since the cards are Fat32, but will instead write another file until it is 4gbs and so on.

Do the errors you receive come from your NLE or from Windows in general? It's good to copy over your p2 card to a harddrive as a backup. You can also use a program like Raylight Ultra to use your mxf files directly in your NLE like Sony Vegas. You can try the demo at the link above.

Best,
Andy

Andy,

Thank you. I am going to give this a shot. I am using P2 for the first time so I have been testing scenios and that is one that I consistantly ran into.

Need to know what you're currently doing to "import" these files. What software? What steps? Be as detailed as possible so that we can help. :)
