importing mpeg2

Can someone tell me if it's possible to import an mpeg2 into final cut and do a couple changes then output without losing to much quality..(breath) I have a project that I didn't back up to tape.....don't know what I was thinking, anyhow and now the client 8 months later wants to add additional footage. If not final cut is there another way to do this without losing quality?
 
you can use something like MPEGstreamclip (free app, just google it) to convert the mpeg2 to something final cut can use.
 
I use Cinematize 2, great quality QuickTime files in a variety of formats to work with. You really, REALLY want to stay the hell away from editing an MPEG-2 file natively. Convert it to NTSC-DV first.
