Importing LTC

Has anyone imported LTC that was on an audio channel from a mini-dv in FCP? There's the LTC option in device control presets, but I have no idea if that would work. Could it be done over firewire or would it need to be done over a capture card from aja or blackmagic?

It's not supported in FCP over firewire, unfortunately. I think you could send it in through a card like one you mentioned, but you'd probably have to do it all uncompressed. I suppose if you can bring video in FW along with analog audio/TC then you could keep it in the DV compressed domain, but I don't think it works that way. I think if you bring in analog audio and a separate TC signal, then video must be recorded uncompressed or otherwise transcoded and re-encoded in DV25 hence losing a generation. I haven't personally tried it and stand to be corrected.

There are recent threads discussing this with input from Walter Graff, Graeme Nattress, and Michael Phillips from Avid. I'll see if I can find them.
