Importing into Final Cut ... Help Please

Here's my problem...
-I shot a birthday using PMW-EX1
-I imported straight into Premiere Pro and edited it to a nice master sequence
-I than purchased Final Cut Studio 2

This is what I like t do...
-move my entire sequence in to Final Cut

This is what I tried...
-Exported "EDL" in premiere
-opened up Final Cut and Imported the "EDL" File which worked great! I see the Sequence but not the media.

I tried to reconnect the media but the file names are not recognized. I converted using the XDCAM Transfer...same thing.

Can anyone please help me :) thanks for reading

You basically did it right. EDL is no better than an excel spreadsheet. No media involved there.

Why it won't reconnect to the original material is another question.

Three things you might look into:

1) Google for a program called AUTOMATIC DUCK. See if there is a Premiere to FCP version.

2) Force the reconnect... deselect EXACT MATCH from the reconnect dialog box and force each clip individually. Do look for inappropriate characters in the naming sequence.

3) Open the EDL in EXCEL and manually change the clip names.

I'd go with #2.

I'd just finish it in Premiere and then move onto your next project in FCP. It's not impossible to migrate a project from Premiere to FCP without buying the expensive Magic Duck plugin, but it's a boatload of work. If you still have both apps- finish this one in Premiere and do the next one from scratch in FCP. The net result is the same anyway.

I needed to convert to Final Cut Pro for future changes (leaving premiere). Thanks for everyones help. I think the reason it's not working is because Premiere imported the original format from the "BPAV" file and final cut needs to convert it (which I did try). Some files work but no reel information can be captured (Cannot determine what was edited) Thanks again :)
