Importing in Premiere

Whenever I import my AVCHD file it imports without the audio. Do anyone know what I am doing wrong? I am dragging the file onto the timeline from the media browser.Thanks
 
Hi Carroll,

Be sure to copy the ENTIRE contents of the camera card to your hard drive, folder structure intact. Don't pick and choose video clips, and don't use "transfer utility" software. Just a straight copy. Premiere needs all of the assets in their original state to correctly interpret the audio and video formats, so any changes to the media can have consequences.

And then of course use Media Browser as recommended already

I never use media browser, and have always simply brought in the .mts file in the stream folder. Never had any problems doing this, and the embedded audio is fine.

This has always been the case on CS4, then 5 and now CC. I often read people taking great care not to destroy the AVCHD file structure, but apart from the small advantage in media browser, I'd never bothered to keep it, and all my archive drives just have renamed .mts files, in the same way as MP4s, and older .avis and .mov.

The only thing I can suggest could simply be the audio format is not quite right for the sequence type - bit rate, bit depth, number of channels etc. If you have a small file that we could down load and try, perhaps we could see if we can make sense of it?

Right, but when you have a clip over a certain length, you will get an audio glitch -- I've hit this, and it's a pain. Plus timecodes can get messed up. It's one of those things that can work great, until it doesn't. Keeping the whole AVCHD folder seems like the safest option.

Most of my work is theatre style shows, with 45 to 1 hour or more continuous lengths - never had an audio glitches. Must just be luck, I guess.
 
Gentlemen, thanks to all of you for taking the time to respond. I had a backup a copy of the video, I opened it in the media browser and the audio works fine. This is a great forum!

Huh... well, there are many variables, I guess. I was certainly driven crazy by this (on the FS100) until I got the answer on DVXUser.
