Importing files from capture/scratch folder

I'm running fcp studio and can't find in the manual if there is a way to import clips into a new project from a folder that already contains some of the clips already present it your project. I know, I shoudl be more organized, but I had a HD crash... So when I select all in my capture/scratch folder, it re-imports many of my clips so I have 2 of them in the Browser... Is there a way to tell FCP to only import clips in this folder which are not already in the Browser? Thanks.

If I'm understanding you properly, you can import files one at a time. If you select a folder, then that whole folder comes in, period. What I'd do is create a Bin in my Browser, open it by double clicking, then hit Cmd+I to import a file, then hold the Command key (Apple key) while you click only the clips you want.

thanks ben, i think i need to be more clear... there are 600 clips in this folder, and maybe 30 or so of them have not been imported into my browser in stead of comparing each one one at a time to see if it needs to be imported, is there a way to copy everything into the browser that isn't already there without duplicating the 570 things that ARE already there...?

No, I think you're asking the system to be telepathic. I do that all the time, I really do.

I'd just delete everything in the Browser and re-import everything from scratch. Not sure if that's an option for you. If you have already done a lot of editing, that may not be a good approach. But if you haven't it'd work pretty easily.

Unless you're a programmer of any sorts. You could export a batch list of the already imported clips. Take that into excel. Then have excel do a comparison of what's in the list versus what's in the capture scratch folder. Then have it 'print' to an output window with the files that are 'missing' from the list. Voila, your missing 30.

I would do this for you, but I don't know VB that well I'm afraid. I've had a buddy help me out with a couple of scripts in the past, so know you could easily do this, if you have the necessary programming background. But I can't do it myself unfortunately.

cheers.
