Importing DVD

Is there a way to import files from a DVD with Premiere Pro 2.0? The files are NOT in .avi format. When I click on the disk drive in the explorer, two folders open up...an audio and a video folder. The AUDIO_TS folder appears empty, but the VIDEO_TS folder has some files in it...The DVD plays fine, but I need to get this footage stored on the computer's hard drive in order to edit it.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Andrew

This is one of those questions with lots of different answers. Some people simply change the file extension from .vob to .avi and claim that works fine.

I have found in some cases works but in many cases causes PPro2 to do wierd things. After asking this questions and basically getting the run around I purchased TMPGEnc3.0 XPress to encode WM9 etc. and one thing it does really well is rip DVD's.

Works great, definately worth the $59. 4.0 is now available - http://tmpgenc.pegasys-inc.com/en/product/te4xp_spec.html

I would:

-Download DVD Decryptor (google it)
-Download iPod video converter (or any other video converter for .vob files. I use the iPod one because I'm used to making it into 320x240 for the video iPod but it does a lot of formats.)
-Decrypt the DVD. Open iPod video converter and set your settings to what you want and voila.

Forgot to mention both programs are totally free.

Generally I don't like to recommend a product too strongly, but in this case if you have the money purchase TMPGEnc3.0.

I have used DVD2AVI, DVD Decryptor and a myriad of other freeware applications and yes with some tinkering they work. However with TPMG it's one button and your done. Nothing to set up, convert or configure and it works everytime.

If you can't afford it or like configuring and trouble shooting why this DVD2AVI clip works with PP and that one doesn't, then the freeware way to go might be for you.

I just think that often we spend $100 of our time trying to save $50...
