Importing DVD footage?

i'm doing a project and the client wants some footage included from a homemade dvd they made. is it possible to import dvd footage into fcp? or do i need a third party software to convert the footage first or something?

3rd party, and the norm around here seems to be:

mpeg streamclip

I really think it would be useful to have a sticky to answer this question. Anyone agree??

Yeah, this comes up a lot. A sticky might be a good idea.
