importing avis

Hi I am trying to import avis into my broadcast file. When I import the clip only the audio shows up, there is no video track. I have been importing by dragging the avi movie files into the bin of my project. The video clips in my file are 24p, and the avis I am trying to import are 29.97 interlaced, could that be the issue? Should I be bringing the files in a different way? Any help would be greatly appreciated, I am new to broadcast.

What is the codec of the AVIs that you are importing? Certain codecs are not supported by edius. For instance, AVI files using Digisuite from Matrox and those using Cineform codec are not supported, if you import them in to the bin you only see tha audio part.
Try using procoder to convert them into a format that Edius supports, ie; Canopus HQ or DV.

Hope that helps.

I tried a few different codecs and even uncompressed avis and had no luck. I'll give the procoder a try.

What happens when you double-click on the clip in the bin, without dragging it to the timeline? It should open in the player -- if you get video there, then the clip should be usable in the timeline.

Project settings don' t matter to EDIUS with regard to clip import. Either the clip is an EDIUS-readable format or it's not. Frame size, aspect ratio, frame rate, etc will all get adjusted automatically for the project once the clip is placed on the timeline.

So the key question is whether the clip is a format readable by EDIUS or not.

Well, I re-exported my other files as quicktimes, and now I can import them. The only problem now is that they won't play back in realtime. THe HD video clips in the project play back no problem. My computer is nothing special, amd athlon 2400, 1 gig ddr ram. Is this a hardware issue?
