Need a codec to edit some HVX raw .dv footage ive imported from the firestore. it plays back on the camera but not in final cut.

anyone know how to fix this problem? or can point me in the right direction for the correct codec, I cant seem to find anything.

Avoid the Raw DV format totally if you're using FCP. I don't know any solution. Contact Focus. But FCP does not support the Raw DV (.dv) format. There's nothing to be gained from recording with it for an FCP editor. I suspect you'll have to gte someone with Avid or something to convert the file to QuickTime for FCP. I have no clue what software will do that.

Here's a quote from some web page I just skimmed:
Every non-linear editing software has a preference for the type of DV file it prefers to work with. Apple's Final Cut Pro prefers QuickTime based (.mov) files, Adobe Premiere and many others prefer AVI-2 (.avi) files, and other editing softwares prefer raw DV (.dv)...

ya It was accidentally recorded to the FS when we dident realize that it was not in P2 mode, so far im hearing the solution to this is to get another FS-100 connect the two and stream it over, then organize P2. Or I'm hearing we can stream it thru firewire and capture in FCP as if it was a camcorder, I tried that with my avid but it dident work =(

Right now we are trying to rent a FS in brooklyn for a few hours or borrow from someone who is freindly.

By the way thx ben you respond to almost all my posts! cheers!

I bet your Avid will do it. Plug the Firewire cable from your Avid PC to the FS-100 DV firewire port, NOT the Computer port as you normally would. Turd on the FS-100, Avid should be able to read the feed from it just like a camcorder. Hit play on the FS-100 (there will be no firewire control) and record live just like from tape.

Oh, with this method, just turn on the FS, do not put it in hard drive mode as you normally would to copy files.

Streaming it out to anther FS that is set to P2 mode won't work, I don't think. P2 mode tells the FS to look for P2 formated stream. You may want to double check with Focus on this. Their tech support is very friendly.

Ya I did try that to no avail, windows notices a camcorder, I think it even said panasonic once but then as soon as I highlight a track for capture it says no input signal present. There wouldent be any deck settings or additional settings in avid to change this? Keep in mind I have EDU 3.5 XPress so pretty much one step above free =P

The editor is on FCP so we will try on his when i can get down to the city, we may be renting a P2 card to power through this is neccesary.
