Importing and Aspect Ratio

I have a question about capturing footage from the DVX to FCP.
When I import footage recorded with regular aspect ratio, the quicktime files that are created are regular 640X480 dv files. But when i Capture files recorded in letterbox mode (with the excact same capture settings) I get streched widescreen files, 853X480 pixel dv files, in FCP the footage is normal (correct 720X480), but the QT files in the Capture Scratch are very sterched. Why is this? is FCP somehow detecting the letterbox? how can I import the letterbox footage in with its regular aspect ratio?

And one more thing; when i export to quicktime (self contained movie) The files are 720X480, which streches them horizontally a little, why is this? is this normal? how can i get the regular aspect ratio (withot stretching) when i export self contained?

The difference between the 640x480 and 720x480 is just an adjustment for the pixel aspect ratio...the camera shoots with unsquare pixels (720) and this gets manipulated to 640 in square pixels.

If you are shooting letterbox, then you do not import it as widescreen footage. The footage is still 4x3 as far as the NLE is concerned.

ok i understand the 640 and 720 thing pixel shape thing, but about the other issue, the thing is im not importing widescreen or anamorphic, im importing like regular footage, but the quicktime file in the capture scratch is wide screen 853X480 for some reason, why is this? is this normal?
