Importing AE animations into FCP

i have a video project shot in SD (720x480 frame size in FCP with a 16:9 ratio) and i have done some simple 15 second animations projects in AE that i am trying to integrate into FCP, so i rendered the animation project out of AE as quicktime files and when i try and import it into FCP it's smaller for some reason than the video footage, there's black space on the sides even though i setup the document in AE the same as my frame size for the video footage in FCP which is 720x480. does anybody know what wrong and why my footage is not matching up??

The same thing has been happening to me. Check the size of the file in the scale section and see if it is 100%. it might not be. the other thing I did was scale it up in AE and reimport into FCP.

Did you set up the comp in AE using the DV widescreen preset or did you manually set the size to 720 x 480?
DV 4:3 and 16:9 are both 720 x 480, FCP looks for a flag on the clip that tells it that the footage is widescreen. Depending on how you render out of AE sometimes this flag gets dropped. Control click on the clip and bring up the properties (I think this might be a sub menu labeled format - sorry I'm not in front of FCP right now). The page gives you all the info about the clip; frame size, frame rate, sample rate, etc. Among all the items is a category called anamorphic with a place for a check mark to the right. If there's no check mark then click it to give it a check mark. This should solve the problem, if everything looks proper then your done. If the footage is stretched (circles look like eggs), then you need to go back to AE and do it over using the DV widescreen preset.
