Importing 1080i form DVX100A

I attended a FCP Users Group where Gary Adcock showed his HD Footage. He said he shot on various cameras, one being the DVX100. But no matter what camera he shot on he imported the footage as 1080i footage, edited and pushed it out as whatever medium it was going to be viewed on. Long story short I tried and failed! How is this done?

I'm assuming he creates a 1080 sequence and resizes the DV footage to fill that frame. (resize under motion tab settings)

he might have went to a lab and got it upressed from a mini dv deck to a 1080 hd deck and then brought it in to FCP 1080i, but doing it like scott says would work two. I don't know how the image would hold up.

Would AJA Io, Kona SD, or Pinnacle CineWave make this capture possible?

And do you see a quality advantage in this process when you are exporting 720?

They capture using SDI and the DVX dosnt have SDI Capture you would have to get a converter. The only advantage I would see is the 4:2:2 Chroma Sampling.
