importing 1080i 2PA footage

I keep getting freaked out by reports of people incorrectly importing footage and then having horrible issues later on and having to reimport and cut their films so here is the deal.

I just finished shooting this feature on the Panasonic HDX900 - we shot 1080i 24PA. Is there any specific way to import this footage into FCP? Help me out guys! Also, the director has 5,000.00 for a new Mac desktop and cinema display.....any suggestions on how to spend that cash? Thank you!

What issues with importing incorrectly? I've heard of troubles getting all the footage to import, but not it importing imcorrectly and needed to be redone. Oh, unless you count issues with FCP 5.0.4 imports used in FCP 5.1. Then you needed to reimport.

Mac desktop and Cinema Display will set you back $4400...NOT including RAM, unless you are talking a mid range desktop, and not the Octo. Then you need backup drives for the P2 media, then the MEDIA drives to edit them. I recommend the CalDigit S2VR Duo for editing. Backup can be a cheaper LaCie or OWC drive.

So you can work with it...but not monitor it for color correction or output it to tape. Unless you go to a post facility.
