Imported Media Aspect Ratio

Hey guys, I'm having a slight problem with aspect ratios when importing media. I've imported 4:3 video and 16:9 and even some photos but they all are said to have the 'Square Pixels.' I have to change each clip individually and it's a real pain. Any thoughts on why it's doing this. This is all a recent thing by the way. Thanks in advance.

Photos most likely should be square (computer images), but the video probably shouldn't.

You say "imported"...where did the video come from? It might have been exported as square (for the web, etc). But if you did the capture, that shouldn't be the problem.

Unless you're importing uncompressed video, or 720p video, it should be non-square. What's the source?

This is video that I have rendered as uncompressed and I rendered it in Vegas as either 4:3 or 16:9. One of them was rendered in AE also as 4:3 and I had the same problem with it. I just checked all of the render settings for those and they were either set for 4:3 or 16:9. I'm wondering if there is an import setting that can be changed. Again, this just started happening in the last couple of days and I haven't changed any of the preferences. I'm officially stumped.

Oooooh, that. No...you just never noticed it before. When you render uncompressed and reimport (or "to a new track" without reimporting), for some reason Vegas sets the track to square pixels.

Drives me crazy. Did it in 5, still does it in 6. Which makes me think there is a reason for it, but hell if I know what. (Unless uncompressed AVIs simply don't have the aspect ratio marked in the header, so it defaults to 1:1.)
