Important question about recording...

I have a panasonic miniDV pv-gs320 camcorder, and as many know, it doesn't have any mic input. I need some way to record sound externally through a microphone, to store and transfer to my mac later. Many people recommended an iriver 890 mp3 player that has a mic jack, and others recommended something like the Zoom H4 Handy Recorder, that has mic input and has a built in mic.

So what do you recommend for a budget audio recorder that i can use a mic with?

Everyone's budget is different. However I found the Zoom H4 to be the perfect entry level budget decision for me because it has multiple microphone options especially two XLR ports with phantom power to handle some better quality microphones. I recently used it to simultaneously capture line audio from a band's mixer and also from a XLR powered microphone. Had to learn about syncing and mixing audio, but it was all worth it because the sound was so much better than from the camera alone. Do a search here on DVXuser for the H4 and I think you will find much more information and perhaps some other options.
