I'm trying to edit some footage that is in avi file format, whenever I import it into final cut it has to render, I'm editing several clips that are all about 30 minutes long, it takes a long time to render them before i can start editing, is there a way around this? Does anyone know how to import so that it doesn't have to render? Also when I convert the files to quicktime and try to import them I still have to render.

Your sequence settings aren't matching your clip settings in Quicktime... match them an you won't have to render... given you chose DV/NTSC as your codec.
