I'm importing footage for a cut my editor is working on that's on a really tight deadline, he doesn't have time to import the tapes into his avid, so I'm going to do it in FCP (I don't have an avid). So we need just a few minutes from each tape, so I don't want to just give him an entire tape imported. What should I export the clips as from FCP once I capture from the tapes? (Possible issues are: 1. Loss of quality and 2. Compatibility from a quicktime file to Avid.)
He said to make sure it was an uncompressed quicktime file and it should be fine, but there are several options for "uncompressed" in the export menu.
Also, if I just work from clips I have already imported, will that be uncompressed footage, if I just captured is as standard DV NTSC 48 kHz? Can anyone help who has experience mixing footage from FCP into Avid? All the footage was shot on the DVX100A in S5 (24P) and I am importing on a G5 tower into Final Cut Studio.
Update: I tried to export the clip from the bin directly (as Uncompressed 8-bit NTSC 48 kHz) and it says: "You appear to be transcoding between DV and CCIR-601 derived formats. Should the proper pixel aspect ratio and frame size be preserved?" (This footage was shot 24p in squeeze mode) Am I choosing the wrong export format? Should I click yes or no or...?
Update: Also, either way I export it, it's exporting it the way it looks on the DVX LCD when I shot it, it's squished and not spread out to it's native width? I'm so completely lost on this. What should I be setting the QT Movie settings to in the drop down menu upon export: "compressor native" or "DV NTSC 720 x 480" or "DV NTSC 720 x 486" ???
Thanks in advance for any advice!
