Import From Ppro2

When I importa a clip form premiere into AE, the full clip is imported and usually i only need a small piece of that clip, what i do is select the "piece" of clip i need and render that in premiere and then import into AE, and then render that again...
Is this a wise method? Will i loose quality?
Any suggestions?

If you need to import from PP into AE just a fragment of large clip.... how do you do it as not to import the full clip???? just that fragment????
