Import footage via DVX-100 or deck

I am curious to know how many people here capture their footage to their computer via the firewire port in the DVX-100 or use a deck to capture their footage? I use the firewire and have no problems with it but people say the heads will wear out faster that way. All the decks I see cost just as much or more than the DVX-100. I am curious to know what others use and is there an advantage to either one.
 
Just get a cheap consumer camera and use that as a deck. I have the same issue with decks myself. Haven't got a second camera yet though. I did however buy one of those mini dv rewinders to save my camera from doing all that rewinding.
 
ive never used my dvx as a deck and i dont think i ever will, after spending all that money why not just get a cheap consumer camera like panny gs9?

trust me it works like a charm

i would rather use my dvx heads for just shooting.
 
Great suggestions. That never did cross my mind. If I do buy a cheap Mini DV cam, it will still capture my footage at 24p?
 
Alrighty then. Just wanted to make sure. Does anybody know the going rates for a cheap/ but functional Mini DV cam I can use as a deck or where to look for them?
