Impending SAG Strike? Say It Ain't So...

Any SAG members out there in DVXuser land who can fill us in on the goings-on? I am nervous that another strike could be upon us very shortly. I may have to suspend my cable service for a few months if that happens...

Its already a defacto strike.

I think its going to happen... though it'll probably be quick and it will also
be 'delayed' as nothing is going to happen on the SAG front until the
vote is in for the AFTRA contract member ratification is complete.

Why would SAG strike?

Cause everyone is still being hosed over the 'home video deal' that became
the foundation for DVD and now online is up for negotiation. Its actually
a pretty good time to get some of this stuff worked out so that there
CAN be a business model :)

Its going to be ugly, but with the current state of 'too many movies'
and the credit crunch/real estate implosion, its a cyclical 'growing pain'.

The pre-strike has been going on for months. All the studios have been very nervous about putting anything new into production. Like the WGA situation, it'll all work out.

The Hollywood branch of SAG is currently the only one not agreeing with anyone. All of the other branches of SAG are ok with the AFTRA deal that was proposed. The major studios are supposed to create one big "final offer" sometime this week to SAG and AFTRA. If they both don't take it, it's going to get uglier than it already is.

So, if there is a strike...... what would the loss be?

What project would a strike effect that's of any consequence, OMG...there isn't another Adam Sandler film coming up is there?

Every single studio pic in prepro or production!!!!!!!!

A ton of jobs are on the line. I know at least three vfx houses that may not
last the summer. Incomes haven't even come close to recovering from
the WGA strike.

Financially, its been one terrible year, so far.

But what actual "project" will actually be missed?

Hollywood sold it's soul out years ago to the almighty $$$.

The "film industry" was killed off for the "film business".

Make a {film}buck, the rubes will never know the difference.

That may be a nice idea from a philosophical point of view, but you're making this argument on a board (and in a thread) where many of the members make their livings supporting these big productions that will be canceled or postponed. We're talking about real people who are set designers, sound engineers, gaffers, etc, who have families to feed - and they have already had a tough year because of the first strike.

These are the guys and gals who are impacted the most, not the suits who made the decision to sell out in your view.
