iMovie to capture 24pA, then CinemaTools pulldown?

Can I capture 24pA footage on iMovie, then use CinemaTools to remove the pulldown so I end up with 23.98 (progressive) quicktimes that I can then cut with in FCP HD?

The reason I ask is that in addition to my G5 FCP HD computer, I have an older G3 powerbook. I want to multitask and use my G3 to capture, while I cut on FCP HD on my G5.

The G3 can't handle FCP 4 or higher. But it has iMovie 4 installed, and I could also install FCP 3 on it. Before I waste time testing this scheme, has anyone done it or knows if it will work? I've never used iMovie before.

Just to clarify I'd be doing this:
24pA captured in iMovie @ 29.97fps, then brought into CinemaTools and converted to 23.98progressive fps.

I have in the past, converted 24pN (interlaced) 29.97 footage to (progressive) 23.98 in Cinematools and it looked fine... infact it looked exactly like 24pA footage, which makes me wonder what the point is of shooting 24pA when you have that flexiblity with 24pN to go either way.

24pa provides slightly better quality and if you're in FCP you don't need to use Cinema Tools and the extra time and disk space it requires. You can of course truly log and capture your footage in FCP.

Best bet it to do a short test to see if all the flags are retained in the capture and save process.

I tried a sample clip. The 24pA footage captured in iMovie @ 29.97 looks good, no wierd motion problems. However, when I bring the clip into CinemaTools and do a "reverse telecine pulldown" to 23.98, CinemaTools crashes, on multiple trys.

With all the exporting and converting involved in this scheme, I'm beginning to think that multitasking with iMovie is a bigger waste of time. However, I would say it's a good solution if your footage is 29.97 and your editing in 29.97.

Which now brings me to a new question: is there an iMovie plugin to capture 24pA?
