Immediate need for a telephoto adapter!

I have an immediate need for a telephoto adapter for my DVX100B.

Basically I'm shooting a live comedy performace and my camera (3 camera shoot) will be located in the very back of the theater about 100ft from the talent I'm shooting. Full zoom just isn't enough to get a decent head to toe shot. I need a little bit more on the lens. So, the obvious solution is a telephoto adapter (please tell me if there is a better option). Here's the problem; I don't have the budget for a Century Optics 1.6x telephoto lens adapter (which the users of this forum seem to agree is the best). So, with my budget of "as little as possible" and a shoot date of Jan 27th I was hoping you could help me out.

Thanks a bunch in advance. looking forward to your replies.

I do believe that the Century Tele can be rented, I would ask at Able CineTech in NYC, if it is a short (one day?) shoot rental would make sense. While you might well think I am prejudiced, I am not aware of any other quality Tele for the DVX100.

Speaking from experinece;
The Truth is, in my opinion that the DVX100 is just not suited for the kind of recording you are trying to do. -Taping a live event from very far away was one of the things not in its design. -You cant have everything. _ And in the design for the DVX i belive they were targeting more for the filmmaker - not the event shooter. - The XL2 is much better in this case with its 20x lens- however it is not as good for indie filmmaking as the DVX is, being so big and cumbersome. Like i said you cant have everything- But that dosnt help you in this case - it may however give you a new perspective. I shot a very similar event as you did last week and we had 2 XL2's and 1 DVX100 with a telephoto lens. Even with the Telephoto lens the DVX was simply not up to par with the XL2 for that sort of thing.

Bill,

Thanks for the referral to Able Cinetech. I called them and they are shipping the lens to me (weekend rental) so I can use it for the shoot tomorrow; good bunch of guys over there. It's amazing that nobody in my market has this lens. I'll let you know how it worked out.

Thanks again,
Steve

Bill,

The shoot went great. The Century Optics lens was exactly what I needed to get my shot. Below are some with tele and without tele images I took during setup.

*Note: I am at full zoom on both of these images and am approximately 100ft away from the subject.
