IMDB Bottom 100

I just realized when I was looking at the list on IMDB for basically worst films (according to votes). Probably 70% or more of those films as you look at the list are from the year 2000 and forward. The greater majority being made in the last 4 years.

Anyone have any comments on this?

People watch what's new, and they vote on what's new. Not a lot of folks mining the archives of Netflix to bring up jewels like "Manos, The Hands of Fate"...

I figured it was because in the last decade, films have been easier to make for those who want to make them. All the tools are out there and more accessible. Thats just my guess but I didn't think of what you said Barry, thats an interesting angle.

That's entirely possible too, but scanning the list, it looks like about 3/4 of the list has over 1,000 votes. That usually means it's had a pretty wide release; much of the homemade easy-access-yields-dreck stuff is never going to get 1,000 votes, right?

Now, if you were to ask a different question, which is: has the easy access to equipment resulted in a glut of films that are even worse than "The Hottie And The Nottie"? then the answer would have to be a resounding "yes!" But those pics will likely never see the light of day, much less an audience wide enough to get a thousand voters on IMDB. Entirely possible though, as I sure don't recognize a lot on that list.
