Hello,

In my search for cheap lighting equipment I've stumbled upon these guys...

http://imagewest.tv/

Seems I could get a 1000k Arri clone (what they call their "BluLine") for $400 dollars with a stand and barn doors. They have 650's, 300's and 150's as well, and they all go down in price accordingly. Anyone have any experience with them? What do you guys think?

BluLine lights are pretty decent knockoffs of Arri lights. They ship in from China and several stores sell them. There are a few cheap parts that easily fail on them but are very easy and cheap to fix. Watch eBay for the best prices on used lights. I've bought used, but in excellent condition, 1k fresnels for $40. When buying knockoffs I like to look for B&M, Century, and Altman. These are all very high quality lights that will last a long time. Some of my B&M lights are over 30 years old but look and perform like new.

Just use the search engine of the site, much has been said about them.

There are probably 22 factories now in China which produce a similar fresnel including Cool Lights so you can't point and say that any one of them is the same as being sold by another re-seller. Cool Lights produces their own now so we can control much better whats going on and any changes we want to make to them for improvements. The 1000w is in stock now, the others will be back in stock by end of year.

Also we carry scrims now for them and these should work on many models including Arri's. And we have a 24" x 24" softbox kit for the 650w and 1000w models which allows softening them up when you need to.

Cheap, Cheap, Cheap. Richard is right there are a decent alternative but be prepared to replace almost every nut and bolt. The metal is of poor grade and easily strips, but the replacements from hardware stores are cheap and a lot less than Arri.
