Image Stabilization in a Canon EF Lens

I'm very close to purchasing this lens. Should I be concerned that it doesn't have Image Stabilization (IS)? There are no 24-70mm lenses with IS it appears.

I'm buying the 70-200mm /2.8 with IS in addition to the 24-70mm /2.8.

Thanks!

No. It's not a super tele lens, therefore there's no need for stabilization. In other words, it doesn't have a long enough zoom to require any help keeping it steady.

On another note: what all are you purchasing? looks like quite an investment you have going here...

I love this lens...it is on my Rebel XT 80% if the time. no its not really telephoto but it covers a lot of ground and is very sharp. It's a little heavy though (reasonable for how fast it is.) Image stabilization would be nice but not really so useful on wider lenses because you can hold it steady at 1/60th or faster and anything slower than that will have motion blur when shooting people. For a telephoto lens its hard to hold it steady at anything under 1/125th so image stabilization makes sense.

Defenitly get a uv or other protective filter to protect the glass on this. One thing to be aware of with this lens is that it attracts a lot of attention (could be good or bad). The lens is ultra solid and tough (I believe its weatherproof) The auto focusing is also whisper quite (a little slow in slow in low light) Last feature that I like about this lens is that when you zoom in the lens actually pulls back and when you shoot wide the lens moves forward. This makes it less intimidating for subjectsw ehn youa re trying to get close and also makes sense for the lens hood.

I'm buying the Canon EOS 5D with a vertical grip plus the lenses mentioned above.

Also, purchasing this tripod & head and this bag.

I will be taking the 5D, the Powershot G9, and my MBP with me to Paris in the fall.
