Image sequence render times

Hi there, has anyone noticed that PNG image sequence takes a zillion times longer than JPG? Anyone has an idea why that could be?

Re: Image sequence render times

I don't know, David...

I've got a sequence of 171 frames. Each image is about 470K in PNG, and about 86K in JPG - factor of 5 and a bit. It took 39 minutes in PNG, and just over a minute and half in JPG - factor of about 25.

Something doesn't scale here...

I believe PNG is an uncompressed format. The one time I tried rendering a 3D sequence in Vegas, I ran into the same problem.

Re: Image sequence render times

When I used photozoom pro for PNG vs Tiff I found it about the same to render..about 2secs per frame. But then I made sure I put the file in another drive and not my system drive. Doing so made the speed tolerable vs 4-5secs if file is in the system drive.
