Hi

Im looking for a high-res image (2 olive leaves) to indicate Official festival selection or winner.

Where do i get one from?

Any suggestions?

Thank you

Yeah, we used Google to find one, then modified it for our own purposes for the site.

My site has an automatic laurel generator, hehe, it's great. It's still in beta testing here, but basically you just enter the text you want and it creates the laurel and puts it on the site.

No offense but that thing sucks compared to the one my site uses, haha. It's really not customizable at all, doesn't work properly, it's basically awful. You should see what my friend / programmer designed for the site. It's pretty spiffy and a lot easier to use than that. Plus ours can be used obviously on-site, from anywhere, by anyone, Mac or PC.

Haha, well for one it's not live on the site right now, it exists in code only that is on my friend Erik's computer. Second, when it is live (we have tested it to build our festival laurels), it is a private back-end to the site, admin access only. I paid for a custom site, after all, and this was one of the custom features. It's very easy to use, though, it's really neat that he was able to do this. It was discussed early because I didn't really want to have to open Photoshop and make these things each time, and we were having problems with the way it would resize them, etc. It had to be addressed somehow, because the site is designed so that I have to use NO HTML whatsoever to update. I can just update through a back-end like this forum, basically, and have everything go live on the site, pictures, videos, text, etc.

Hello there....

Hello there....

Hello all, this is Martin, creator of EZLeaves. I was notified of this thread via my Google alert on "EZLeaves" and figured I'd join in. I'd like to address Jonathan's second post:

It's really not customizable at all
Well, you can only select from two styles of laurel leaf images, but everything else about the end image is customizable (font, image size, image type, etc).

doesn't work properly
Can you be a bit more specific with this? Many people use EZLeaves without problems, unless you're running on less than a 1024x768 desktop resolution or using a Mac :)

You should see what my friend / programmer designed for the site. It's pretty spiffy and a lot easier to use than that. Plus ours can be used obviously on-site, from anywhere, by anyone, Mac or PC.
I'd love to see what your friend did, and I think making it publicly available would be a big help to your fellow indie filmmakers. I wish I could support Mac users with EZLeaves, but alas I'm not a Mac developer.

I've actually been using EZLeaves a lot lately, helping a fellow filmmaker (running a Mac) make images for her web site and print material. In doing so, I'm considering adding some more functionality to it, including:

  • Ability to set DPI of resulting image
  • Ability to specify a custom laurel image

If anyone has any other suggestions for improving EZLeaves, feel free to e-mail them to me at EZLeaves@moviesbymartin.com.

Thanks!

Jonathan

To me: Your tool DOES NOT exist right now.

I hate getting petty about such things BUT EZLeaves seems to be working just fine and i am satisfied with it. Unless you make your tool live on your site, please do not put down someone else's work.

My "tool" isn't free for all to use, sorry. I paid for it! You can pay for something nice to be developed too, or use the alternative. As for a sample, my programmer said he will make available a sample on his developer site in the future, but it will say "DEMO" on the laurel leaves so it will not be useable. Nonetheless you will be able to see the functionality.

EZLeaves doesn't work at all with Macs, which is what most filmmakers actually use, so that already makes it pretty much useless. When my friend was emulating the thing on his computer the text wouldn't resize properly at all, whereas ours automatically resizes to fit the given space, no matter what you write. There's no manual resizing required. Just playing around with it wasn't all that satisfying, but it's a good attempt for sure. It's better than nothing, for PC users I am sure. For Mac users it is nothing, unfortunately. Maybe in the future it will have that functionality.

guy. seriously.
1) download free laurel from sonny boo. http://www.sonnyboo.com/downloads/downloads.htm
2) open in photo shop
3) get rid of official selection text in middle. (I drag the selection tool around the text, then tap the paint bucket on the text till it all disappears)
4) use the text tool to type your own text in the middle. I recommend elongating the text in the "character" box to make it clearer even though it may be scrunched or small.
5) Under "layer" create "new layer from background. This makes the original jpeg, until now a background layer, a regular layer that can be edited easier and it's necessary for the next step.
6) With the laurel leaves level selected, use your magic wand and click on the black background. It will select all the background behind the laurel leaves. Hit delete. Now you will see a checkerboard with the white leaves and your white text.

*You can save / export this image with white text and laurel leaves and a transparent background to use over any dark background now.

For black leaves and text, continue:
7) Make a copy of the layer of laurel leaves using duplicate layer or selecting "new layer via copy" under the layer menu.
8) With the copied leaf layer selected, under the Image menu, select "Invert" your white laurel leaves will now turn black (turn off the original white laurel leaf layer below the black leaves)
9) Select your text and change the color from white to balck

* you can now export or save as a black text and leaves with transparent background to use over any white or light image or background.

I'd save the file and use it as a starting off point for all new laurels to maintain consistency, so if you have several laurels on a poster or website, all of the font is the same, aligned the same, etc.

I made my own wreath in Photoshop. I used a standard wreath that I downloaded from Google Images, then I manipulated it and added my own text. What do you think of it? How can I improve it?

If you like it, feel free to utilize it also. Here's the link where you can see it:

http://www.releasing.net/butterflies_in_the_wind_trailer_13.html

I use the wreath as cover for the flash version of my trailer for BUTTERFLIES IN THE WIND.

My movie is also available from Amazon.com

You can download it or watch it as VOD from Amazon.com

Thanks for looking.... Any feedback will be appreciated.

Actually...

1) I dont need a tool. I can re-create using another image

2) EZLeaves got an extended discussion because of someone suggesting of a 'better tool' which cannot be seen or tried out or even used in the future for free

3) I don't use Mac, i use a PC and i'm not complaining
