Hello
I am in Paris. we use PAL.
I have one 16 mm film shooted in 24 frames/second. The 16mm film has been transfered into HDCAM SR (Spirit Data) 25 frame/second and DVCAM on 25 frame/ second.
I am going to edit the film in Off Line with DVCAM copie.

My problem is : My Image is 25frames/second and my Sound is 24 frame/second. We have to transform le sound into 25 frame par second.
Please advise me how to do that, some people have suggest me Cinema Tool …, I don't Cinema Tool.
Thank you very much

Material : Final Cut Pro, Mac Pro 2,8.

Your sound is not 24 frames per second. Sound doesn't have a frame rate, it has a sampling rate, and your sound is probably 48,000 samples per second. That will play back equally well on a PAL or an NTSC timeline.

you sync you sound eather on telcine stage then its 1 to 1 or make mute telecine 25 fp s then open it as 24 on computer and sync the sound
as barry pointed the sound doesnt have frame rate only different tc rates
wih 24 the tc may be 24 or 25 ( doesnt) matter at all ifyour camera swas didnt equip with tc burner

As every one has said there is no "frame rate" for sound. However you recorded sound that was in sync with picture at film speed and now you are playing back at video speed (pal) and that is a problem. I believe film to PAL transfers are usually done frame for frame so now you need to slow down OOPs speed up your sound. In audio post this is usually done by engaging the DAW's pull down option but you can do it in any audio application that can stretch the sound. I don't work in PAL so I don't know off the top of my head what the stretch will be but I'm sure you can Google it. My recommendation though is to find a local audio person who does post. THey will have the tools and know how to use them, a much better deal for you.

I'm very sorry, I forgot to mention that only Images have been transfered by Spirit Data in 25 frame/second.
The sound has been recorded by a Nagra Pilot on 24 frame/second. Now I have to convert that analogic sound 24 frame/second into AIFF format 25frame/second to put that on the Time Line of Final Cut Pro.
Waiting for your advise.
Thanks very much

Cooki, stop thinking of it as FPS for sound. Sound was recorded in real time. You have sped up your picture by 4% (thanks Derrick) now you need to speed up the sound to match. Part of why you need to talk to a sound person that works in PAL is that unless your going back to film (in which case this speed change is temporary) I think you need to also do pitch correction with the stretch since 4% will be a noticeable difference. The only positive thing about NTSC is that it's only a 0.1% speed change so we don't usually have to deal with the pitch shift.

And for the raw transfer (digitizing) you can either go in resolved to film speed and do all the manipulation in post or you can resolve the Niagara to video speed and just do the pitch correction in post.

you reaqopen the project in 24 ( like avid film composer) and not do ant slow downs at
all

Hello all of you
My problem has been set recently :
Le lab has transfered directly my sound from the Nagra tape recorder with NeoPilot to the computer under Wave. "Directly" means no need Protools or other sound facilities.
Result : Sound and Image are perfectly synchronized. So that result confirms most of your explanations.
Thank you very much.
