I just bought a new imac G5 1.8mhz and put a gig of ram into it. Am very please it is fast and sweet to work with. Found a german mod that will allow me to use it in a dual screen mode.

Very pleased...goodbye to my old PC.

Congratulations! It should be a sweet set up with the extra RAM. Another PC bites the dust. I'm glad you found a use for it. I tried using an old PC for a paper weight, but it kept giving the papers a virus...

I've seen some cheap shots in my time, but that one's so low it's off radar:laugh:

Here we go again... :)

btw, It's kinda funny seeing people using their original log-in names since the forum software was changed. I wonder if Mino realizes he was making a comment to David Jimerson?

We use this CPU almost exclusively at the school I work at; have had to send three back in a 6 months period! Clearly, Apple has changed something in their QC, and its not a good change! Besides having sub-par color-management settings(can't use Photoshop at pro level), we've had 2 systems crap out due to re-draw issues, and one with a fried CDrom/DVD drive. The latter run VERY hot, actually causing some warping to CD's and DVDs! As an Avid Mac user (heehee), it pains me to see this sudden drop in hardware quality from Apple.

It has been an adjustment remembering who people were before they became who they are then reverted back to who they were.

(Wow; I think I just wrote a Philip K. Dick tagline.)

I did the same thing about a month ago, without the dual screen mod. I absolutely love the experience so far.

Congratulations. Not that I'm saying anything is wrong with PCs. I would never say that. All computers are equal of course. But Macs are pretty good too. Except of course that 90% thing. Don't use your PC for a paper weight or anything. Make an appropriate shrine for it. I'm sure you were really happy with it too. Really, enjoy your iMac. They are great. How do you like OSX? Just wait til Tiger comes out in a few months... its going to kick ass! Not, of course, that Windows doesn't kick ass too........

Hey, I like PC's. :( My very first computer in the whole world was a Dell back in 2001. (before the obnoctious Dell Dude showed up) My second computer I biult myself from scratch specificaly for editing, and let me tell you, there's really something special about a computer system that you build your self. But I have used MACs. I think they're very cute. I especially like the CDROM eject button on the keyboard. I wish they could put that on a PC keyboard. When I was hired to do some color grading and digital effects work on a film using After Effects on a mac, the computer kept freezing on me. Nothing would work. I'd unplug it and it would still just spin that little color wheel thingy in my face mocking me! AAAAHHHH.

I had the production office buy me a PC workstation and I got the job done faster. :) But yeah, that eject button is da bomb.

WOW .... seems like a lot to me, for what your getting. I can see this going back to the ' what is better, mac or pc '

I just think you could get even a prebuilt system with those same specs or better for less that than, maybe even half that. And personally I think it's just on how to setup the computer and how you upkeep it.

My custom built PC with a P$ 1.8gHz and 512 RAM , putting it up against their comtpuers, runs faster and renders faster than their 2.4 to 3.0ghz processors with 1 gig of ram.

I dont' disagree that Mac's are great computers and in fact I've used them quite a bit.. but for the flexability to work with some much other stuff and ease of upgrade-ability, plus thier abilty to multitask, I went with PC.

I went with a fresh Windows install and then am also running Norton Internet security... and for the last year i've had 0 problems with viruses and spam/ adware. And I do EVERYTHING with this computer.

now let all the hating on PC's begin. :embarasse
