Hey guys I have a late 2009 model Imac.
Specs...
2.93 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4GB 1067 MHz DDR3
running Snow Leopard.

I've been getting into more advanced animation and editing but can't buy a mac pro yet. I'm wondering...I've heard you can run snow leopard as 64 bit....i was wondering if/how I could upgrade my ram to, let's say 12GB. How could I get after effects, final cut, photoshop etc. to utilize it? and will it make a hug difference?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm a little foggy when it comes to comes to computer components. If this is in the wrong section let me know. I wasn't sure where to put this.

For advanced animation and after effects, you might need to check your graphics card. That would be more of a deal breaker than RAM.

It says I have a:
NVIDIA GeForce GT 120

Am I right in my understanding that I cant buy an upgraded video card for my imac. Arn't they attached to the board?

arniepix. THats why I was thinking of upgrading the ram. Then I would just boot up in 64 bit mode when I want to do serious animation that way after effects could utilize more than 3GB. Is that a correct assumption? Would more ram help at all?
