iMac Core Duo

I'm thinking about buying the new iMac Core Duo, the high end one. Does anyone own one? How does FCP HD and/or Pro Tools run on it? Anyone?

Thanks,
Teegee

The pro tools don't run on it yet. They're supposed to be released at the end of this month. I'm getting the 20" iMac myself. I currently have a G4 Mac Mini, and I use FCP HD with no problems at all. I can only hope a Core Duo iMac will be that much faster.

I'm looking at the 20 inch iMac too; 2GB SDRAM, 250GB HD, do you know anything about the Radeon 256MB graphics card? Will it do the job?

Thanks for the info, I really appreciate it!

The iMac comes with a Radeon X1600 with 128MB. And as far as I know, the gfx card in the iMac can't be upgraded.

That said, for FCP and Pro Tools it should be MORE than adequate. It plays back HD video just fine and can more than handle SD video.

I'm getting ready to produce a reality show on HD, and I plan on using the iMac for at least some of the post.

Actually Apple does offer the Radeon 256MB card as an upgrade: ATI Radeon X1600/256MB VRAM [Add $75]

Thanks again for all the info and good luck with the show!

Final Cut won't run native on Intel until they release the universal binarys which will have a crossgrade fee and I think you need FCP 5 to do it.
