I have FCP loaded on the latest generation iMac 23 inch flat screen. Right now I capture Mini DV footage via firewire. Can I capture from Digi Beta or Beta SP decks using my iMac? I can't add any capture cards, so is there a device that I can use to control the decks and capture from Digi Beta or Beta SP?
 
Check out some of the keyspan controllers for RS422. Will fit RS422 to USB. Sometimes they work... sometimes not. Not too expensive though.

or check out the old Aja IO family of interfaces - everything over firewire, 422, SDI, analog. Just sold mine for $600, but it is a nice box and works well...
 
Oh... good point.

I was just thinking of the deck control. Yes, you'll have issues trying to hook up any SDI from the DigiBeta!! If you've got that kind of money sitting around look into CalDigi for some RAID solutions too.

Has anyone used the Sony J-30 digibeta/beta sp combo deck that has output to firewire? It plays back but does not record.
