iMac 20'' and HD(V)

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the new intel iMacs and HDV (and Final Cut Studio). Is this a reliable and fast enough solution to go with or should i just go with a quad power mac (haha... don t really got that kind of money)?

At the moment, I m shooting with a Sony FX1, planning to get a HVX next year (reason for not having the money for a power mac g5 ((maybe they'll show the new mac pro's at the wwdc next week? g6?)) )

Although I'm not answering your question regarding HDV, I thought i would just let you know that I just got my 20" iMac along with FCP studio and it is pretty fast. I upgrade to the highest for everything. Granted I'm editing dv footage. I have used about about 100 gigs already on my bootupdisk for software and music. I have a 300gig external for video w/audio.

Some insight to regular dv, although not what you asked

Hi,

I have a imac 20 and a FX1. I edit always in native HDV and dont have problems.

2 advices:
-RAM 2GB
-External HD

I usually work with DVX footage on my iMac 20" (1 GB RAM), but I'm working on a show now that integrates HDV footage and there's no difference at all in pushing that around vs standard def.

I also use external USB 2.0 drives, not firewire, and it's all fast enough.

thanx for the input guys - seems like the imac is a good tool. anyway - i ve decided to lay out a little more money: mac pro is my way to go now... :)

cheers, tobias
