I'm trying to get proper end titles on a movie.

Using Premiere CS5, I'm trying to set up a professional looking crawl on the end titles of a movie. When listing the actors, I'm trying to put the character name and the actor name besides it and get everything lined up so that all columns line up. I can get the right column using tab but I just can't get a straight left column. How do you line up the left column?

That is not a crawl but a roll
Use two text boxes, align (as in Gregs answer: might want to explore the Titler) and finally group.

Firstly...take a look at the tools in the Titler. You will find Alignment and Distribution Tools in the Tool Panel.

Create two columns Tip.

Create One first. Fill it in completely with Column one info. Format it , Align and Ditribute it etc... and sign off on it.

Select it all. (Lasso or Shift Click) and copy it. CTRL-C > Ctrl V ( it will paste on top of it self but Drag it apart with Selector Tool (V).

You now have two columns that you can align easily.

Edit Column 2 with text as you wish.
