I'm thinking like a doofus right now

here's the deal. I've got this film that I've been putting together for about 9 months now. I've got the actors, even the locations, but at this location, I have a plain, flat, desert, life less area. I know common sense would say find another location, but due to logicstical constraints, this is where I'm at.

So here is the subject: A retired army sergeant major's house. He throws horseshoes. The plain area I need dressed up is his horseshoe pit. We've got the back boards hooked up, but we need to do something in the background.

So if you have any set design suggestions, please drop em'.
Thanks

First thing that comes to mind is parked vehicles. Maybe abandoned rust-buckets up on blocks? Big trucks take up space. Or old school buses. Don't know if you have access to anything like that.

Laundry hanging on a clothesline also is a possibility.
