I'm sure this has been done before! 24p to 24pa

You start out a project by thinking that it will end up on a dvd or at best, tv or cable so you shoot 24p, suddenly you have a chance to go theatrical, Why didn't I shoot 24pa right? So if i use a converter from 24p to 24pa using something like Natress conversion filters, am I worse off than if I had shot 60i or does the fact that I shot 24p get me closer to 24pa than 60i after the conversion? I guess I'm looking to feel a little better about the decision to shoot 24p.

Take it into Cinema Tools and have IT remove the pulldown. Then bring into FCP as 24 and export back to tape with the 2.3.3.2 cadence.

Good luck,

People... we need to all start looking at other threads first before posting. This issue is constantly asked about and answered.

Please look around on the pages first before posting a potentially common question.

(not to come down on you Geno, we all do it including myself. But eventually the people who know the answers will get sick of answering if it's always the same questions that already have answers).

The footage has already been shot to answer John's suggestion. As far as the question being asked before, I don't recall seeing that. The question wasn't how to do it, but weather having shot 24p gets me much closer to the 24pa than if I did 60i. Sounds like a question for Graham. I'm posing the question in terms of maybe a percentage of resolution loss during the conversion. Now that you mentioned the Cinema Tools option, I'm wondering now how that stacks up against Nattress conversion.

if u have achance to take it to theaters...a distributor will transfer it for you....if your stuff is this good, they wont have a problem if it means that they'll make some $$ off you!

No conversion is necssary (i.e. Graham plugins)
Remove the pulldown from the 24p footage with CinemaTools (after 29.97 capture).
It's now 23.98 just like your 24pa with advanced pulldown removal.
Edit both on 23.98 sequence
